The EnergyValue Housing Award (EVHA) recognizes builders who voluntarily incorporate energy efficiency into all aspects of homebuilding, including design, construction, and marketing. Awards are presented in affordable, custom, factory-built, production, and innovative home categories within hot, moderate, and cold climates. Since the introduction of the EVHA in 1996, energy-efficiency in homebuilding has begun to move into the mainstream. In 2000, twelve Gold Winners and eight Silver Winners were awarded, in addition to the Builder of the Year. The company built this 1,390-square-foot house near Yakima, Washington, for $36 per square foot, not including land.   Valley Manufactured Housing's award-winning home features an efficient building shell that includes low-E, gas-filled windows, R-33 floor insulation, R-49 attic insulation, 2- x 6- inch walls with R-21 high-density fiber glass batt insulation, and systematic air sealing. An exhaust-only mechanical ventilation system coupled with window air intake vents maintain indoor air quality. Energy Star appliances and lighting fixtures that accommodate compact fluorescent lamps help keep energy bills low. Its in-plant construction allows Valley Manufactured Housing to control product quality. All of the homes built by Valley Manufactured Housing meet or exceed the specifications of the Super Good Cents (SGC) program. Under that program, all Valley Homes qualify for energy-efficiency mortgages that allow buyers to stretch their debt-to-income ratio. In addition, homes that meet SGC specifications have an added value of at least $1.00 per square foot in the National Automobile Dealers Association (N.A.D.A.) appraisal guide.
